Course Information
Description	Private instruction in commercial guitar with goals related to commercial music.

Lecture Topics Outline	DETAILED COURSE DESCRIPTION - Technical studies: scales, arpeggios, pick and fingerstyle technique, chart reading, note reading, chord patterns and voicings, right and left hand technique - Style Studies: pop, rock, country, reggae, r&b, soul, funk, latin, jazz, gospel, etc. - Melodic Studies: soloing/improv concepts, jazz harmony and tension, melodic analysis, modal playing - Repertoire: rhythm/accompaniment and solo pieces in a variety of commercial styles - Jury: Prepared piece to be performed at the scheduled Jury Recital date - Study of Commercial Ensemble tunes when applicable - Chart Reading: Traditional and Numbers - Note Reading Studies: Melodic Rhythms for Guitar text Major Assignment Due Dates: Midterm (Week 8) Jury - TBA

Determination of Final Grade	This is a 2 credit course that is required to meet 4 hours per week, one with your applied faculty plus three additional hours, exclusive of course preparation. Course Policies
Instructor Policies	Students may email me at richardsoncc@lamarpa.edu. I will respond as soon as possible. To discuss grades, extra credit, etc., you must schedule an office visit for advising. Please refer to office hours listed above.
Attendance Policy	Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success. There are about 15 weeks in every semester; students are expected to attend at least 14 lessons per semester. You are afforded one free absence before unexcused absences count against you. Final grades will be reduced 5 points for every lesson missed. 5 or more unexcused absences may result in a failing grade.
Academic Honesty	Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
Facility Policies	No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
